When your phone detects some inactivity, the auto-lock feature locks your phone after some instance. Although it’s good for privacy and battery life, a phone sleeping while you read or watch anything important would require unlocking it repeatedly.
However, you can prevent your phone’s screen from turning off or locking faster. We’ve discussed a few techniques so that this article could help you.
How to Stop Phone Screen From Turning Off?
The smartphone screen turns off automatically after some inactivity except while playing a video or game. You can keep touching the screen to show activity before it sleeps. Instead of doing that, you can adjust your screen lock settings or display settings to prevent it from turning off.
Whether you want to stop your phone from locking or keep the display active, you can try the following techniques that best suit your requirement.
Change Auto-Lock Setting
You can change the screen lock time according to your preference from the display settings. But ensure the data saver mode is off because it can restrict you from increasing screen awake time. Go through the following steps to increase screen lock time:
On Android
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Display.
- Tap on Screen timeout or Sleep.
This option’s name may vary depending on your Android version. - Now choose how long you want the screen to be on.
Note: Depending upon your Phone’s UI and OS version, the option to never turn off the screen may not be available. In such scenarios, you can choose the maximum time duration available
On iOS and iPad
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Display & Brightness.
- Tap on Auto-Lock.
- Choose Never to stop the screen from turning off. |
Enable Always on Display
A feature of more recent smartphones is an always-on display. You can use this feature to show information like date, time, and notifications on your lock screen even if your phone is asleep. Follow these steps to enable this setting:
On Android
To keep your lock screen awake, look for Always on display or Ambient Display under settings. The name or availability of this feature varies according to your phone’s software version and hardware design.
- Open the Settings app.
- Goto Lock screen.
- Now toggle on Always On Display.
On iPhone
The Always On Display feature is now available on the recent iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
- Open the Settings app.
- Goto Display & Brightness.
- Now toggle on Always On.
Enable Screen Awake (On Android)
Sometimes, you might want your phone screen to stay awake all the time. If this option is unavailable in the display setting, another way to do that is from the Developer option of your Android mobile.
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to System > About phone.
- Tap several times on Build Number(or a similar option) to use as a developer.
- Now go back to Settings and then tap on System.
- Tap on the Developer Options.
- Now toggle on Don’t lock screen or Stay awake.
Note: The screen will never sleep while charging, so plug it into a charger.
Disable Pocket Mode (On Android)
The sensor in your phone turns off the screen while carrying the phone in your pocket or bag to avoid mistaken operation due to accidental touches. The sensor might activate even if it gets covered by our finger or due to a wrongly set screen protector.
So, ensure the Screen Guard is accurately attached to your screen without disturbing the sensor. Another thing you can do is disable pocket mode in Android by following these steps:
- Goto Settings app.
- Tap on Display.
- Now turn off Accidental touch protection.
Use Third-party Apps
There are several apps to keep your screen active. You can consider using them if you are okay with third-party apps and do not want to go through settings. You can also use them to stop the screen from turning off for specific apps.
Download and install any apps available on the Play Store or App Store, such as Screen Alive Wakey, Caffeine, and Keep Screen On and go through their settings to disable screen timeout as required.
How to Stop Phone Screen from Turning Off During Calls?
When you bring your phone near your ear during calls, the proximity sensor turns off your screen. It does that to avoid accidental touches and save battery. However, this smart feature comes embedded in all modern smartphones. Thus, the option to disable it depends upon your phone’s UI or software version.
To stop the screen from turning off during calls on Android:
- Go to the Phone app on your home screen.
- Now go to its Settings.
- Tap on Incoming call settings.
- Turn off Proximity Sensor.
