If you haven’t been active lately on Spotify or prefer to use other services, closing your account or canceling your premium subscription would be best.
However, the option to delete your account may not be very apparent. Spotify has added a few extra steps in the deletion process to protect it from being accidentally deleted. Additionally, you must cancel your subscription before deleting your account if you’re a premium user. The process to delete your Spotify account might seem to be convoluted, but we have you covered, so keep reading!
How to Delete Spotify Account?
When you delete your account, you will lose access to the playlist, favorite songs, library, etc. You need to log in and delete your Spotify account from a web browser, as it is impossible to delete your account from the app.
Delete a Free Account
The process to delete a free account is pretty straightforward. Unlike a paid account, it does not require you to change subscription plans.
On PC
- Visit Spotify on your web browser and sign in to your account.
- Click Support from the navigation bar.
- Scroll down and select Account Help.
- Switch to the Account Settings tab.
- Click on Closing your Account.
- Select the Close your Account option under the Dont have Premium section.
- Click on the Close Account button to proceed.
- You’ll get an overview of the account you wish to close. Proceed by clicking on Continue.
- Tick the I understand check box and select Continue.
- Proceed to sign in to the email account which is linked with Spotify.
- Open the link in your Email. This will redirect you to the browser, notifying you about the successful deletion of the account.
On Mobile
- Log in to your Spotify account on your mobile web browser.
- Tap the three horizontal lines at the top right corner.
- Select Support.
- Scroll down and select Account Help.
- Switch to Account Settings.
- Select Closing your Account.
- Scroll down and tap on Close your account under the Don’t have Premium section.
- Tap on Close Account.
- An overview of your account will be displayed. Proceed by clicking on the Continue button.
- Tap the I understand check box and select Continue.
- Open the email account associated with Spotify.
- Tap the Close my account option on the email. You’ll be redirected to a page confirming the deletion of your account.
After you’ve set your account for deletion, you can still reactivate it via the link in your email. However, you won’t be able to access your account after 7 days.
Delete a Premium Spotify Account
If you have subscribed to a premium plan, you must cancel your subscription to delete your account. Similar to deleting an account, you cannot cancel your subscription from the Desktop or Mobile app. You need a web browser to complete the process.
On PC
- On your web browser, log in to Spotify.
- Click on your profile at the top right corner
- Select Account.
- Scroll down and click on Change Plan.
- Scroll down again and click on Cancel Premium under Spotify free.
- Proceed to select Continue to cancel.
- Click the Yes, Cancel option to cancel your subscription.
- To delete your account, refer to the steps mentioned in the deleting a free account section.
On Mobile
- Log in to your Spotify account on your mobile web browser.
- Tap the three horizontal lines at the top right corner.
- Select Account.
- Scroll down and tap on the Change Plan option under your current subscription.
- Select Cancel Premium under Spotify Free.
- Tap on the Continue to cancel button.
- Tap on Yes, Cancel.
- Part-take or skip the given survey to close the window
