When you delete a Gmail address permanently, any services outside of Google will also now be of no use. But you will still be able to access other Google services such as Google Contacts, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Meet, Google Classroom, etc. You can still use any of these Google services associated with that email.
How to Delete a Gmail Address Permanently?
Before you delete your Gmail address, it’s best to back up your data. To do so, you can log in to your Gmail account and download all your emails.
After you do a backup, you can delete your Gmail address using a mobile device or a PC. Let’s discuss these methods in detail.
On PC
You can go to Google’s website on your PC and delete your Gmail address from My Account on Google. You can follow these easy steps to do so.
- Go to My Account and log in to your account.
- Click on Data & Privacy on the left panel of the screen.
- Go to the Data from apps and services that you use tab.
- Click on Delete a Google Service on the right panel.
- Enter the password to your account and click Next.
- Click on the Trash icon next to Gmail to delete it.
- Type in a new non-Gmail email address to sign in with and click on Send verification email.
- Check your email at the address you entered and click on Delete Gmail in the email from Google.
On Mobile
The ways to delete a Gmail address on a mobile device differ slightly for an Android and an iPhone. Follow the steps given below according to your device.
On Android
- Go to Settings >Google > Manage your Google Account.
- Go to Data & Privacy.
- From the Download or delete your data section, select Delete a Google service.
- Enter your password and click Next.
- Click on the Trash icon next to Gmail to delete it.
- Enter your new email address to sign in and click on Send verification email.
- Check your email at the new address and verify it to delete your previous address.
On iPhone
- Go to the Gmail app.
- Click on your profile picture at the top right corner.
- Select Manage your Google Account.
- Click on Data & privacy.
- Select Data from apps and services you use.
- In the Download or delete your data tab, click on Delete a service.
- Enter the password to your account and click Next.
- Select the Trash icon next to Gmail to delete it.
- Type in a new email address to sign in with.
- Check your email at the new address and verify it to delete your previous address.
How to Delete a Google Account?
Unlike your Gmail account, when you delete a Google account, it will also delete all Google services associated with that account. It will also delete all emails, files, calendars, and photos, as well as subscriptions or services you bought with that account.
Similar to deleting a Gmail account, you can also download and back up all your data before you delete your Google account from Google Delete a Service. To backup, select Export your data > Select All > Next Step > Create Export.
After the backup, you can follow these steps to delete your Google account.
- Go to Google Delete a Service page.
- In the Delete your Google Account tab, click on Delete your account.
- Type in your password and press the Next button.
- Agree to the terms and click on Delete Account.
