iPhone Reminders Not Working – Try These Fixes

The Reminders app is an excellent tool to help remember essential tasks. However, the app may fail to push reminders if there is a problem with the app or device. This issue can make the app purposeless, especially when you rely on it for important tasks such as meetings or events.

There are multiple factors that can cause the app to malfunction. The issue could be either with the app or your device. Some of the common reasons are:

    • Glitches in services or processes
    • Disabled notification for Reminders
    • Sync errors
    • Faulty application
    • Corrupt iOS

How to Get iPhone Reminders Working Again?

Before we move on to the fixes, we should check a few settings to ensure that issue is within the Reminders app. Check if your phone is in silent mode. While this might seem obvious, you won’t be able to hear alerts from Reminders if you’ve muted the phone. You can toggle it off from the silent switch. Besides, you can try the fixes below until your issue is solved.

    Enable Notifications

Often, the issue might not be with the app. Instead, it could be a simple misconfigured setting. Reminders work by sending push notifications. However, if the notification is disabled, it won’t function properly. We need to ensure that the notification for Reminders is enabled. Refer to the following steps:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Tap on Notifications.
      tap-on-notification
    3. Scroll down and open Reminders.
      tap-reminders
    4. Ensure that the Allow notifications option is enabled.
    5. Select a sound from the Alert tones instead of None.

    Check Focus Mode

You should check whether you have a Focus mode enabled. While the Do Not Disturb focus mode is enabled, the notifications from all the apps, including Reminders, will be suspended. If a Focus mode is enabled, you can turn it off from the control centre or allow the Reminders app to push notifications on Focus mode. To allow Reminder in focus mode, follow the given steps:

    Re-Sync Reminders with iCloud

    1. Launch Settings.
    2. Open Focus.
    3. Tap on Do Not Disturb.
      select-do-not-disturb-mode
    4. Tap on Apps under the Allow Notifications section.
      select-apps
    5. Select Add Apps.
    6. Tick Reminders and tap on Done.

Data stored in the Reminders app is always in-sync with your iCloud account. Any interruption in this process can cause issues with Reminders. You can fix this by re-syncing the Reminders app with your iCloud account. Follow the steps to resync the app:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Tap on your Account.
      select-your-apple-ID
    3. Select iCloud.
      select-icloud
    4. Toggle off Reminders.
    5. Select Keep on My iPhone to keep your previously saved reminders or Delete From My iPhone to remove all reminders.

    6. Toggle it back on.

    Reinstall Reminders App

Any bugs or glitches that may exist within the Reminders app can also cause it to freeze or stop responding. An excellent way to remove these errors is to remove the app itself from your device and install it again.

Here’re the steps to uninstall the Reminders app:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Tap on General.
    3. Select iPhone storage.
    4. Scroll down and open Reminders.
    5. Select Delete App. This option will remove everything, including the app data
    6. Tap on Delete App on the given prompt.
      delete-app
    7. Head over to the App Store and search for Reminders.
    8. Tap on the cloud icon to download Reminders on your device.

    Update the iOS

Sometimes, the version of software installed on your device can contain bugs and errors, which can cause settings and applications to misbehave. Generally, these issues are addressed, and their fixes are included in updates. So, you should ensure that your device is updated with the latest version of iOS to avoid any issues. To check for any pending updates, follow the step below:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Tap on General.
    3. Select Software Update.
      software-update
    4. Install any pending updates.

    Reboot your iPhone

The processes and services running in the background of your device can experience freezes or glitches. It can have a negative impact on the performance of an app, including Reminders. You can perform a soft reset by restarting your iPhone. Rebooting your device will restart all the processes that could’ve been facing problems.

    1. Press and hold the power button until a slider shows up
    2. Slide the slider from left to right to shut down your phone.

    3. Wait for a few minutes and turn it back on by holding the power button again.

    Reset your Device

Resetting your iPhone erases all the contents stored on your device as well as reverts all the changes back to its default settings. Resetting ensures errors within the Reminders app are reverted as well. Before resetting your device, you should back up all your files on your computer or iCloud.

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Select General.
    3. Select Reset.
      tap-reset
    4. Select Reset All Settings.
      reset-all-settings
    5. Enter your passcode.
    6. Confirm the prompt by tapping on Reset All Settings.
